You will need to complete an application and the company may run a credit check.

The approval process for a merchant account can take anywhere from minutes to days depending on how rigorous the application process is and which company you are dealing with. However it is worth the time and effort if you want your business to be taken seriously. Also, when you have the ability to accept credit cards your customer base may expand.
