Know about hyperimune globuln

May 7th, 2011 by admin

Following the initial dose of tetanus toxoid, nonimrnunized individuals require approximately 30 days to acquire a safe antibody level (at least 0.0 1 I.U. of serum antitoxin per milliliter of blood). Patients are passively immunized in the interim by intramuscular administration of human hyperimmune globulin containing 250 units of tetanus antitoxin simultaneously with the toxoid. This protects for about 4 weeks. Passive immunization is not recommended for individuals who have received previous active immunization.TREATMENT. Surgical care of wounds should be immediate. The most important features of surgical wound care are thorough cleansing and debridement. Foreign bodies and necrotic tissue can be massively contaminated with Clostridium tetani and establish wound conditions promoting growth and exotoxin production by Clostridium tetani.
