My issue with crockpots

There are a lot of good crockpot chicken recipes in cookbooks and on the internet, but I am hesitant to try them out. Crockpot recipes require the cook to leave the meal in the crockpot for hours at a time. While this may be very convenient for some, I hesitate to leave a crockpot plugged in while I am at work. In order to leave enough time for the meal to finish, I would have to be away from the house while it was cooking. I am scared of leaving an appliance on in case it bubbles over, or catches on fire. I know this is unlikely, but I am still concerned about leaving a crockpot unwatched. I guess Ill have to leave this type of cooking for the weekend when Im at home.
